Taekwondo a Regular Sports Event In Palawan

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Oct. 11 (PNA)–Taekwondo is now a regular sports event in this island province of Palawan.

Inspired by the victory of Palawan Taekwondo Team, the provincial board approved Tuesday a legislation which include taekwondo a regular sports program of the provincial government.

The team, recently bagged the most coveted awards in the 2007 Florida Open International Taekwondo Championships at Sebastian River High School, Florida, USA.

The team composed of Jonathan Sebastian who brought home gold medal (flyweight), best player (sparring category) and bronze medal, poomse/forms (koryo); Genesis Segovia for the silver medal (pinweight), bronze medal, poomsae/forms (koryo) and Raymund Val Padua for silver medal, poomse/forms (keumgang) and as best coach.

Vice Gov. and PB’s presiding officer David Ponce de Leon, author of the measure, said the awards received by the team was a strong indication that Palaweno can compete with equal strength and vigor as players in other countries.

Thus, Ponce de Leon disclosed that to strengthen and continue what has been achieved by team, it needs to recognize the said sports event. (PNA)

TIKOB Reliving Filipino Traditions..

May 31st, 2007

By: Noril Pilpil (Bahrain Tribune)

THE SCENT OF ” PINOY aroma” has once again lingered around Bahrain’s social scene as hundred of Filipinos gather to celebrate the Fiesta Ng OWWA 2007 last May 25,2007 at the Delmon International Hotel, Manama, Bahrain.

The event organized by Tau Gamma Phi and Tau Gamma Sigma of Triskelion International Kingdom of Bahrain in collaboration with POLO-OWWA, Philippine Embassy, Smart Remit, Filipino Club and Caravan Group of Hotels has been successful in raising funds for the purpose of sending potential out of school juveniles to study again in the Philippines.

The Filipino’s Bayanihan was once again relived to give aid to our deprived kababayans back home.

The Fiesta ng OWWA was started off of the parade of the infamous Ati-atihan together with the tribal harmonies of thier drums and the cymbals bringing its spectators to great delight, following the hymns of the Philippine and Bahrain’s National Anthem.

Short speeches were given out from the representatives of Triskelion International and Filipino Club respectively had silence the audience. The arrival  of Philippine Embassy Ambassador Eduardo Pablo Maglaya, who fire out inspiring thoughts to his fellowmen heat up the whole place with much patriotism. After an atmosphere of surging heat the place cooled down as the Palarong Pilipino take place. Prices and gifts packs were given away to lucky winners.

Pinoy cuisine was a free treat to everyone. Sponsored by different Filipino restaurants. Food flooded the whole place giving a real “Pinas” ambience from well-known calderetang manok to steaming goto were served to satisfy everyones appetite.

Filipino talents will not miss out this kind of occasions. From modern to ballroom and even native Filipino dances were showcased. A total entertainment that once again proved the Filipino’s skill. But the fun doesn’t  stop here; the grand finale showcased the Pinay beauties in the legendary Flores de Mayo, 15 muses compete for one title. The victorious Flores de Mayo, Queen Rochelle Malanque rise.

BTM Platform

April 27th, 2007

TAU GAMMA PHI/SIGMA
TRISKELION GRAND FRATENITY SORORITY
REPRESENTS BTM (BAGONG TAO MOVEMENT)
FOR PARTY LIST

WHAT IS BTM’S PLATFORM OF GOVERNMENT
OR PROPOSED PROJECTS?

YOUTH:

1. BTM proposes the immediate
implementation and adherence to the
enacted Magna Carta of Students’
Rights which spells out the rights and
duties of the studentry.
2. Enactment of legislation with
regards to a “Student Loan Program” so
that talented and qualified youth who
desire to pursue higher education but
who are hampered by a lack of
finances, could do so. However,
special attention and incentives will
also be provided to afford less
expensive technical, educational
training and skills to the youth in
construction-
related and blue-collar skills like
carpentry, plumbing, electrical,
masonry and the like. In addition, the
youth will also be encouraged to learn
skills in vegetable farming and simple
animal husbandry to take care of pigs,
goats, ducks or even a new concept of
urban “tilapia farming” being
developed in the Philippines.
3. Creation of a “Youth Court System”
wherein youthful offenders of minor
crimes like vandalism, malicious
mischief or disturbing the peace, will
be handed out sentences by his/her
peers with more emphasis on community
service for restitution.
4. Creation of a “Youth
Reconciliation Campaign” designed to
bring together the different warring
sectors of the studentry particularly
the fraternities, to dialog, thresh
out and come to terms with their
respective differences and instill a
spirit of mutual forgiveness and
mutual respect and peaceful co-
existence among themselves. Conflicts
should be threshed out in a non-
violent and non-deadly manner, if the
same cannot be totally
avoided.
5. Fostering of various campaigns
with scholarship grants or cash or in
kind prizes, to youth organizations
who will use their talents and
creative resources to diminish, if not
totally stop the drug menace among our
youth, foster love for the environment
through reforestation, cleanliness and
graffiti removal projects as well as
be active partners in maintaining
peace and order in their respective
communities by the creation of youth
community patrols.

URBAN POOR:

1. Develop and implement a financial
structure/system wherein the urban
poor, after undergoing the pre-
requisite skills and management
training as well as the
moral/spiritual formation and
accountability, could have easy and
ready access to minimal capitalization
(maximum of P5,000 each) to finance
small livelihood projects to enable
them to support their families.
Cooperatives will be set up to assist
and encourage them to help each other
succeed.
2. Creation and establishment of
community legal, medical and dental
centers wherein volunteers from the
different legal and medical
institutions would attend to the legal
or physical needs of the impoverished
sectors of our society. In this
regard, the curriculums of the
different educational institutions
could be modified and incentives given
to encourage these community projects
by prospective legal, medical and
dental practitioners.
3. Establishment of a special task
force or agency designed to tap into
the goodwill and abundant resources of
Filipinos overseas, particularly the
USA and Canada, to encourage them to
share their blessings with their less
fortunate countrymen and establish
among others soup kitchens, pre-school
training, old clothes, stuffed toys,
pens, etc. for the poor and hungry
children in different urban areas of
the Philippines, livelihood-adoption
programs where concerned Filipinos
could provide a one-time needed
capitalization (maybe $100) to
deserving but poor families and other
creative projects designed to achieve
a certain sense of Filipino
Nationhood.
